Cátedra Olavo Setubal inicia censo em comunidades vizinhas à USP
Três comunidades vizinhas a dois campi da USP na cidade de São Paulo estão recebendo, desde 15 de janeiro, a visita de 20 estudantes responsáveis por entrevistas com moradores para coleta de dados de um censo populacional, social e econômico. O projeto é uma iniciativa da Cátedra Olavo Setubal de Arte, Ciência e Cultura, parceria do IEA com o Itaú Cultural. Com as informações do censo, os habitantes do Jardim São Remo, do Jardim Keralux e da Vila Guaraciaba poderão planejar e reivindicar ações que promovam sua qualidade de vida, o acesso a direitos básicos e serviços públicos de qualidade e a melhoria da infraestrutura urbana.

Olavo Setubal Chair begins a census in communities close to USP
Three communities near to USP campuses in São Paulo have been receiving the visit of 20 students who are in charge of conducting interviews with residents in order to collect social and economic data. The project is an initiative of the Olavo Setubal Chair in Art, Science and Culture, a partnership between the IEA and Itaú Cultural. With the information from the census, the inhabitants of Jardim São Remo, Jardim Keralux and Vila Guaraciaba will be able to plan and claim actions that promote their quality of life, access to basic rights, public services and improvement of urban infrastructure.

Novo grupo de estudos busca compatibilizar biotecnologia recente e medicina tradicional
O médico Silvano Raia e a geneticista Mayana Zatz, ambos professores da USP, coordenarão o Grupo de Estudos Biotecnologia Terapêutica Recente e Medicina Tradicional, aprovado pelo Conselho Deliberativo do IEA em dezembro. O objetivo é discutir a compatibilização dos novos métodos terapêuticos baseados na biotecnologia recente com os métodos terapêuticos da medicina tradicional. O foco será nos aspectos éticos, religiosos, legais e médicos do transplante de órgãos de animais para seres humanos.

New study group seeks to reconcile recent biotechnology and traditional medicine
Physician Silvano Raia and geneticist Mayana Zatz, both professors at USP, will coordinate the Recent Therapeutics Biotechnology and Traditional Medicine Study Group after the project approval by IEA's Board in December. The objective is to discuss the compatibility of new therapeutic methods based on recent biotechnology with the traditional medicine therapeutic methods. The focus will be on the ethical, religious, legal and medical aspects of organ transplantation from animals to humans.

Walter Neves e Eliane Rapchan promovem ciclo para tratar do diálogo entre a antropologia e a biologia
As tendências do movimento conhecido como “giro” ou “virada” da Antropologia serão o tema de uma série de oito encontros com coordenação e exposição do biólogo Walter Neves, professor sênior do IEA, e da cientista social Eliane Sebeika Rapchan, pesquisadora do Laboratório de Arqueologia, Antropologia Ambiental e Evolutiva (LAAAE) do Intituto de Biociências (IB) da USP. O ciclo A Virada Ontológica na Antropologia: Diálogos Possíveis entre a Antropologia e a Biologia, que se inicia no dia 26 de fevereiro no IEA, terá uma atividade a cada duas semanas. Para participar é preciso realizar inscrição prévia para todo o ciclo (limitado a 70 vaga s). Não haverá transmissão pela web.

Walter Neves and Eliane Rapchan promote a cycle to discuss the dialogue between anthropology and biology
The trends of a movement known as the Anthropological Turn will be the theme of an eight-meeting series coordinated and presented by biologist Walter Neves, a senior professor at the IEA, and social scientist Eliane Sebeika Rapchan, a researcher at the Laboratory of Archeology, and Environmental and Evolutionary Anthropology (LAAAE), linked to USP's Institute of Biosciences. The cycle 'The Ontological Turn in Anthropology: Possible Dialogues between Anthropology and Biology,' which begins on February 26, at the IEA, will have a new activity every two weeks.

Stefano Quintarelle debate as implicações socioeconômicas do futuro imaterial conectado
No encontro Democracia, Autonomia e o Futuro Imaterial Conectado: Debate com Stefano Quintarelli, no dia 5 de fevereiro, às 11h, o pensador e político italiano, integrante da Agência para a Itália Digital, discutirá o futuro imaterial e a redefinição da sociedade com a ubiquidade dos dispositivos, a coleta massiva de dados e a inteligência artificial (IA). O debatedor será o diretor-presidente do Núcleo de Informação e Coordenação do Ponto BR (NIC.br), o cientista da computação Demi Getschko. A mediação será do economista Ricardo Abramovay, professor sênior do Instituto de Energia e Ambiente (IEE) da USP.

Stefano Quintarelle discusses the socioeconomic implications of the connected intangible future
At the meeting 'Democracy, Autonomy and the Connected Intangible Future: a Debate with Stefano Quintarelli,' to be held on February 5 at 11:00 am, the Italian thinker and politician, who is a member of the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID), will discuss the immaterial future and the redefinition of society with the ubiquity of devices, massive data collection and artificial intelligence (AI). The debater will be the director-president of Ponto BR Information and Coordination Center (NIC.br), computer scientist Demi Getschko. The mediator will be economist Ricardo Abramovay, a senior lecturer at USP's Institute of Energy and Environment (IEE).

Curso de especialização em saúde mental, imigração e interculturalidade tem inscrições abertas
Estão abertas as inscrições para o Curso de Especialização Saúde Mental, Imigração e Interculturalidade, oferecido pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo (Unifesp) com o apoio do Grupo de Pesquisa Diálogos Interculturais do IEA. O curso é gratuito e tem 30 vagas para profissionais que trabalham diretamente com imigrantes e refugiados. A carga horária é composta por aulas teóricas e práticas, sempre aos sábados, no campus Vila Clementino da Unifesp. Os encontros acontecerão em dois períodos do ano: de março a maio, semanalmente, e de julho a dezembro, quinzenalmente. Os interessados devem enviar o curriculum vitae e uma carta de intenções para o e-mail imigrasaude@unifesp.br até o dia 15 de fevereiro.

Open call for a Specialization Course on Mental Health, Immigration and Interculturality
Submissions are being accepted for the Specialization Course on Mental Health, Immigration and Interculturality, to be offered by the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) with the support of IEA's Intercultural Dialogues Research Group. The course is cost-free and has 30 vacancies for professionals who work directly with immigrants and refugees. There will be theoretical and practical classes, always on Saturdays, at UNIFESP's Clementino Campus. The meetings will take place in two periods: weekly from March to May, and fortnightly from July to December. An updated CV and a letter of intent should be sent to imigrasaude@unifesp.br until February 15.

Migração será o tema comum de membros da rede Ubias em 2019
Numa época em que o mundo todo discute como lidar com os crescentes fluxos migratórios, a rede Ubias elegeu como tema de 2019 as “migrações”. Formada por institutos de estudos avançados baseados em universidades, a rede escolhe todos os anos um assunto para incentivar seus membros a discutirem-no em diferentes perspectivas e formatos. A definição aconteceu durante a última reunião do Comitê de Direção da rede em Bielefeld, na Alemanha, em novembro. Mas o tema já havia sido discutido na 5º Conferência de Diretores da rede, realizada na sede do IEA-USP em março deste ano.

UBIAS chooses "Migrations" as common theme for the member institutes in 2019
At a time when the whole world is discussing how to deal with growing migratory flows, UBIAS chose "Migrations" as the topic for 2019. Formed by institutes of advanced studies based in universities, the network yearly choose a subject to encourage the members to discuss it from different perspectives and formats. The definition took place during the last meeting of the Steering Committee, held in Bielefeld, in November. It had been previously discussed at the 5th UBIAS Directors' Conference, hosted by the IEA-USP last March.
