Cientistas políticos analisam natureza e consequências da crise de democracias

Com o objetivo de entender tanto a natureza da crise de várias democracias quanto as consequências desse processo para a qualidade do regime democrático, o Grupo de Pesquisa Qualidade da Democracia realiza, no dia 28 de novembro, a partir das 9h15, no IEA, o seminário Crise da Democracia e Reforma Política. O evento será constituído de duas mesas: de manhã, “Sobre a Crise das Democracias”; à tarde, “Impacto da Reforma Política na Fragmentação Partidária”, quando será analisada as alterações aprovadas pelo Congresso Nacional em 2017.

Political scientists analyze the nature and consequences of the crisis of democracies

In order to understand both the nature of the crisis in several democracies and the consequences of this process for the quality of the democratic regime, the Research Group on Quality of Democracy will hold the seminar "Crisis of Democracy and Political Reform" on November 28, at 9:15 am, at the IEA. The event will consist of two round tables: in the morning, "On the Crisis of Democracies;" in the afternoon, "Impact of Political Reform on the Party Fragmentation," when the amendments approved by the Brazilian Congress in 2017 will be analyzed.

Seminário internacional debate soluções para o impacto ambiental do turismo e da patrimonialização

A preservação dos patrimônios naturais brasileiros exige estratégias de conservação inovadoras diante dos desafios impostos pelas dinâmicas da sociedade e o avanço do turismo. Essa questão será discutida no seminário Políticas Públicas, Patrimonialização, Turismo e Sociedade, nos dias 29 e 30 de novembro, no IEA. O encontro é uma iniciativa do Grupo de Pesquisa Políticas Públicas, Territorialidades e Sociedade. Segundo os organizadores, as discussões propostas integram os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) estabelecidos pela ONU.

International seminar discusses solutions for the environmental impact of tourism and heritage designation

The preservation of Brazil's natural heritage requires innovative conservation strategies in the face of the challenges posed by the dynamics of society and the advancement of tourism. This issue will be discussed at the seminar "Public Policies, Heritage Designation, Tourism and Society," on November 29 and 30, at the IEA. The meeting is an initiative of the Institute's Public Policy, Territorialities and Society Research Group. According to the organizers, the proposed discussions are part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Debate trata dos efeitos nocivos das drogas e outras substâncias à saúde masculina

Os Efeitos do Álcool, Drogas e Anabolizantes Esteroides na Saúde do Homem é o tema do debate que o Grupo de Estudos em Saúde Masculina do IEA promove no dia 30 de novembro, às 14h30. O encontro tratará tanto das consequências nocivas dessas substâncias quanto de estratégias para lidar com o seu crescente uso por adolescentes e jovens adultos, segundo o médico Jorge Hallak, professor da Faculdade de Medicina da USP (FMUSP) e coordenador do grupo de estudos.

Debate addresses the harmful effects of drugs and other substances to men's health

"The Effects of Alcohol, Drugs and Anabolic Steroids on Men's Health" is the subject of the debate that IEA' Study Group on Men's Health will promote on November 30, at 2:00 pm. The meeting will address both the harmful consequences of these substances and strategies to deal with their growing use among adolescents and young adults, according to physician Jorge Hallak, a professor at USP's School of Medicine (FMUSP) and coordinator of group.

André Mota fala sobre o debate médico em SP nos anos 30 e 40 a respeito da eugenia

Ações eugenistas ambientais e mesmo medidas para impor restrições e até a supressão de indivíduos foram tema de longos debates entre setores médicos paulistas nos anos 30 e 40, de acordo com historiador André Mota, coordenador do Museu Histórico e professor da Faculdade de Medicina da USP. Ele tratará desses debates na conferência Racismo e Eugenia: Um Debate Médico Paulista nos Anos de 1930-1940, no dia 4 de dezembro, às 10h30, no IEA. O evento é organizado pelo Grupo de Pequisa Khronos: História da Ciência, Epistemologia e Medicina.

André Mota talks about the medical debate on eugenics in the 1930's and 40's in São Paulo

Environmental eugenic actions and measures to impose restrictions and even the suppression of individuals were the subject of long debates among medical sectors in the 1930s and 1940s, according to historian André Mota, coordinator of the Historical Museum and a professor at USP's School of Medicine. He will address these debates at the conference "Racism and Eugenics: A Medical Debate in 1930-1940 in São Paulo," on December 4, at 10:30 am, at the IEA. The event has been organized by IEA's research group Khronos: History of Science, Epistemology and Medicine.

Seminário reflete sobre imagens da escravidão e pós-Abolição

O seminário Imagens da Escravidão e do Pós-Emancipação: Desafios do Passado e do Presente, no dia 4 de dezembro, às 14h, no IEA, irá refletir sobre os significados acumulados na trajetória das imagens (pinturas, desenhos, fotografias e posteriores reconstituições cinematográficas) de homens e mulheres escravizados, libertos ou afrodescendentes durante a escravidão e no período pós-Abolição. O seminário é organizado por duas professores da FFLCH-USP: a historiadora Maria Helena Pereira Toledo Machado (em período sabático no IEA) e a antropóloga Lilia Schwarcz.

Seminar reflects on images of slavery and post-Abolition

The seminar "Images of Slavery and Post-Emancipation: Challenges of the Past and Present," to be held on December 4, at 2:00 pm, at the IEA, will reflect on the meanings accumulated in the trajectory of the images (paintings, drawings, photographs and later reconstitutions) of enslaved, freed or Afro-descendant men and women during slavery and the post-Abolition period. The seminar has been organized by two professors from USP's Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences: historian Maria Helena Pereira Toledo Machado (currently on her sabbatical leave at the IEA) and anthropologist Lilia Schwarcz.

Uma reflexão sobre o ideário da extrema direita do passado e de agora

A discussão teórica sobre o fascismo, a resistência pacífica (mas com risco de vida) ao nazismo na própria Alemanha durante a Segunda Guerra e o ideário dos partidos de extrema direita e do populismo de direita surgidos nas últimas décadas, principalmente na Europa, foram discutidos no dia 8 de novembro, em seminário com a participação de cientistas políticos e especialistas em estudos alemães. Organizado pelo Grupo de Pesquisa Qualidade da Democracia do IEA e pela Cátedra Martius de Estudos Alemães e Europeus, o encontro Memória, Democracia e Resistência: Reflexões sobre o Nazifascismo na Alemanha marcou os 80 anos da "Noite dos Cristais", ocorrida na noite de 9 para 10 de novembro de 1938.

 

A reflection on the far-right ideology of the past and nowadays

The theoretical discussion about fascism, the pacific but life-threatening resistance to Nazism in Germany during World War II and the ideals of far-right parties and right-wing populism that have emerged in the last decades, especially in Europe, were discussed on November 8, in a seminar with the participation of political scientists and specialists in German studies. Organized by IEA's Quality of Democracy Research Group and the Martius Chair for German and European Studies, "Memory, Democracy and Resistance: Reflections on Nazifascism in Germany" recalled the 80th anniversary of the "Kristallnacht" (Crystal Night), November 9-10, 1938.
