The Sandwich PhD is a scholarship program in which a regularly enrolled student has the chance to do part of their PhD course in another university, be it at a national or an international university. The duration of this exchange can range from a few months to one or two years, as long as it does not exceed the total duration of the PhD and with the condition that the dissertation defense takes place at the IFUSP.
The Sandwich PhD programs aim to enrich the students researches and to strengthen academic partnerships between our university and other universities, as well as their respective countries.
In Brazil, Sandwich PhD scholarships are usually granted by governmental research agencies such as CAPES, CNPq and FAPESP. Admissions are made through announcements and some of them pass by the analysis of coordinating committees of graduate programs, such as the "Programa de Doutorado Sanduíche no Exterior (PDSE)" offered by CAPES. PDSE scholarships last 6 to 12 months and the students are normally selected in the beginning of the year. We do not provide information about CNPq and FAPESP procedures, as we do not manage their Sandwich PhD programs. Therefore, it is important to regularly check their websites if you wish to learn more about it and if you intend to apply.

In addition to these offers, every once in a while a few opportunies arise for exchange programs and international internships for PhD students, granted by private institutions. It is the case of Mobilidade do Santander, and Fullbright Brasil.
Always keep an eye on our website and don't forget to check your email: PDSE announcements are widely publicized, along with other scholarship opportunities abroad.
