Introduction

The 2017 the 3rd Advanced School in BioMolecular Simulations will offer six days of intensive training in a wide range of Molecular Dynamics (MD) methods and Modelling biomembranes. It will also provide an opportunity for discussion of research projects with invited lecturers and colleagues. The School comprises ten lectures by two invited guest and four tutorials sessions.

All participants are expected to be students and post-docs with previous experience in molecular simulations. Participants are instructed to bring his/her own laptop running Linux operational system, which will be required for use in the practical sessions. The list of open-source software to be used during the tutorials are: fortran compiler (ifort or gfortran), FFTW, VMD, Gnuplot and Xmgrace, and Gromacs.

All participants will present their work in a 5min oral presentation in English. The purpose of the oral presentations is to integrate the school participants and raise issues for discussions and potential collaborations. Therefore, the presentation should address the main question investigated in the respective research project as well as the strategies used to answer it.

The Advanced School in BioMolecular Simulations is promoted by the BioMol project,  a cooperative effort between researchers at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), FIOCRUZ (Aggeu Magalhães Research Center/Recife/PE) and the University of São Paulo (USP). One of the main goals of the BioMol project is to promote the education and technical training of biologists, chemists, computer scientist, mathematicians and physicists for research in the field of bioinformatics or computational biology.
