Seminário do INCT/NAP/GFCx

Advanced Light Scattering Technologies: Dynamic & Static Light Scattering.
Dr. Coline Bretz (LS Instruments AG)

6ª. FEIRA – 18/07/2019
Auditório Adma Jafet, às 14:00h.

Abastract:

Static (SLS) and Dynamic (DLS) Light Scattering are two of the most important techniques to study nanoparticles in suspension. An advantage of DLS over other sizing techniques is the ability to conduct fast measurement on low sample volumes, in-situ. Performing DLS measurements at several angles allows for an accurate, robust characterization of non-conventional or polydisperse samples. Additionally, SLS enables the measurement of a broad range of characteristics, such as molecular weight, particle shape, or structural features.
While these technologies have been widely employed for more than 30 years, they are still undergoing constant improvement. During this seminar, Dr. Coline Bretz from LS Instruments AG (Switzerland) will review the scientific fundamentals of both SLS and DLS and present some of the latest advancements. In particular, the Modulated 3D Cross Correlation which enables the measurement of highly concentrated samples without the need for dilution will be discussed, as well as the characterization of particle anisotropy through Depolarized Dynamic Light Scattering.
