EMA / SIRIUS - LNLS

The Extreme Methods of Analysis (EMA) beamline of Brazilian Synchrotron Light Source has an immediate open position for outstanding researcher in Synchrotron techniques under extreme thermodynamical conditions. The EMA beamline is dedicated to the study of materials under extreme conditions of temperature, magnetic field, and pressure from the combination of several techniques such as X-ray diffraction, absorption spectroscopy and inelastic scattering. EMA pursues unique experimental setups, fully optimized for extreme condition studies at high pressure and high or low temperature and high magnetic field. The successful candidate is expected to work in these fields, conducting research, providing user support, and developing the relevant capabilities at the beamline.
Main Activities
As a researcher at EMA beamline, you will:
- Participate in ongoing in-house research programs;
- Develop your own research using Synchrotron radiation in collaboration with your academic and/or industrial contacts and aligned with the LNLS goals;
- Support the external users as a local contact;
- Help to ensure continuous operation of EMA;
- Contribute to enhance the performance of EMA in the field of extreme thermodynamical conditions (designing new instrumentation, adapting complementary analytical techniques, developing new software, etc.).
Required Qualifications
- PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or related areas;
- Post-doc experience in the field is desirable.
We expect the successful candidate should meet some of the following qualifications :
– Synchrotron X-ray diffraction and/or spectroscopy.
– High pressure experiments in diamond anvil cells;
– Experience with micro and/or nano focused x-ray beamsizes;
– Commissioning/operation/use of a synchrotron hard X-ray beamline
