“Predicting results for nucleus-nucleus collisions at increased collision energy”

Dia: 03 de maio, terça-feira, Ed. Principal, Ala 2, Sala 335, IFUSP, às 17 horas.

Abstract:

After a long shutdown for upgrades, the Large Hadron Collider recently began run 2, colliding lead ions at an energy of 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair, compared to the run 1 energy of 2.76 TeV. I will present predictions for
and momentum integrated v_2{2} and v_3{2} in these higher-energy collisions from hydrodynamic simulations. I will discuss how, by focusing on momentum-integrated observables, and only on the *change* in the observables with increasing collision energy, we can make precise predictions despite larger uncertainties in the absolute values of the observables (such as those originating from the initial stages of a collision, as well as certain experimental systematic uncertainties). I will then compare the predictions to measurements that were subsequently released, and discuss what can be learned.
