IEA recebe inscrições para a 3ª Intercontinental Academia, sobre rigidez e dinâmica das leis
O IEA recebe até 6 de agosto candidaturas de jovens pesquisadores que queiram participar da 3ª Intercontinental Academia, sobre “rigidez e dinâmica das leis”. Previsto para acontecer em março de 2018 em Cingapura e em março de 2019 em Birmingham, Reino Unido, o programa é organizado pelos institutos de estudos avançados da Universidade Tecnológica de Nanyang e da Universidade de Birmingham. O foco é em pessoas que estejam em início/meio de carreira, tendo até 15 anos de conclusão do doutorado, e que realizem pesquisa na academia, indústria, no terceiro setor ou em outras organizações. Todos devem ser fluentes em inglês.

IEA receives applications for the 3rd Intercontinental Academia, with the theme rigidity and dynamics of laws
Until August 6, the IEA will receive applications from young researchers who want to participate in the 3rd Intercontinental Academia, which will be developed on "rigidity and dynamics of laws". Scheduled to take place in March 2018 in Singapore and March 2019 in Birmingham, the program is being organised by the advanced study institutes of the Nanyang Technological University and the University of Birmingham. The focus is on people who are in their early / mid-career, up to 15 years of doctoral completion, and who conduct research in academia, industry, the third sector, or other organizations. Candidates must be fluent English speakers.

A contribuição da boa gestão para a qualidade de vida nas cidades
O planejamento das políticas públicas, as diretrizes e os planos diretores das cidades sofrem de um mal enraizado na sociedade brasileira: o desvio das suas funções originais visando ao atendimento de interesses menores ou particulares no momento da sua implantação. Da mesma forma, a administração sofre desvios quando a gestão da coisa pública é distribuída entre partidos políticos. “Muitos problemas não são resolvidos por uma questão politiqueira e os entraves das cidades acabam virando plataforma política”, afirma o professor Arlindo Philippi Jr, que desenvolve pesquisa no Programa Ano Sabático de 2017. Do trabalho em andamento resultará um livro com proposições para gestores públicos e pesquisadores da questão urbana, a ser lançado no início de 2018.

The contribution of good management to the quality of life in cities
The planning of public policies, legislation and city master plans suffer from a well-known cultural malaise in Brazilian society: the deviation from their original functions aiming at attending minor or particular interests at the time of their implementation. Likewise, administration suffers from deviations when the management of the public issue is distributed among political parties. "Many problems are not solved by a political issue and the obstacles of the cities end up becoming a political platform," says Professor Arlindo Philippi Jr., who is participating in the 2017 Sabbatical Year Program at the IEA. The ongoing work will lead to proposals for public managers and urban researchers in the form of a book.

Um vídeo para amplificar a voz dos coletivos culturais da cidade de São Paulo
Lúcia Maciel Barbosa de Oliveira, professora da Escola de Comunicações e Artes (ECA) da USP, e a cineasta Priscila Lima acabam de lançar o documentário “Dinâmicas, Flutuações e Pontos Cegos", um dos resultados da pesquisa que Lúcia realizou no IEA em 2016, no programa Ano Sabático. “Minha vontade era produzir um vídeo para dar voz às pessoas dos coletivos culturais e fazer com que a potência da obra deles aparecesse, o que seria difícil num artigo, que é algo mais descritivo”, explica a especialista em políticas culturais. Com 24 minutos d e duração e disponível no YouTube, o filme sintetiza seis horas de entrevistas gravadas com artistas, produtores culturais, gestores e pesquisadores.

A video to amplify the voice of cultural collectives in São Paulo
Lúcia Maciel Barbosa de Oliveira, a professor at USP's School of Communications and Arts (ECA), and filmmaker Priscila Lima have just released the documentary 'Dynamics, Fluctuations and Blindspots', one of the outcomes of Oliveira's research at the IEA in 2016. "My intention was to produce a video to give voice to the people of the cultural collectives and to make the power of their work appear, which would be difficult in an article, which is something more descriptive," explains the specialist in cultural policies. The 24-minute long film is available on YouTube and synthesizes six hours of recorded interviews with artists, cultural producers, managers and researchers.

Bioeconomia e química verde serão tema do próximo Strategic Workshop
O próximo Strategic Workshop da Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa da USP, realizado com o apoio do IEA, buscará apresentar conhecimentos de ponta e fomentar o diálogo em ciência, tecnologia e educação de profissionais relacionados aos biorrenováveis, bioenergia, agroindústria, saúde e alimentação, uso de by-products ou resíduos, escalonamento de processos, programas oficiais de P&D em Química Verde e tópicos aderentes. O encontro, intitulado Green Chemistry, Bioeconomy & Entrepreneurship: Innovative Drivers towards Sustainable Products and Processes in Cross-sectorial and Cross-border Cooperation, acontece no dia 12 de julho, a partir das 8h30, no IEA, e terá transmissão ao vivo pela web. A participação presencial requer inscrição prévia.

Bioeconomics and green chemistry are the theme of the next Strategic Workshop
The next Strategic Workshop of USP's Dean of Research, supported by the IEA, will seek to present cutting-edge knowledge and foster dialogue on science, technology and education related to bioenergy, agroindustry, health and food, use of by-products or waste, process scheduling, official R&D programs in Green Chemistry and pertinent topics. The meeting will be held in English and is entitled 'Green Chemistry, Bioeconomics and Entrepreneurship: Innovative Drivers for Sustainable Products and Processes in Trans-Sectoral and Cross-Border Cooperation'. It will take place on July 12, from 8.30 am, at the IEA, with live webcast.

A consolidação da história das mentalidades ao longo do século 20
Em 1929, Lucien Febvre e Marc Bloch fundaram a École des Annales, que se tornou uma referência mundial para o desenvolvimento e consolidação da história das mentalidades durante o século 20. No encontro Formas de Pensamento, Ideologias e Mentalidades, no dia 12 de junho, o historiador Carlos Guilherme Mota, cofundador e primeiro diretor do IEA, fez exposição sobre a trajetória da disciplina no mundo e no Brasil. O evento foi organizado pela professora em ano sabático no IEA Marisa Midori Deaecto, da Escola de Comunicações e Artes (ECA) da USP.

The consolidation of the history of mentalities throughout the 20th century
In 1929, Lucien Febvre and Marc Bloch founded the 'École des Annales', which became a world reference for the development and consolidation of the history of mentalities during the 20th century. At the meeting 'Kinds of Thought, Ideologies and Mentalities', on June 12, historian Carlos Guilherme Mota, co-founder and first director of the IEA, gave an exhibition about the trajectory of the discipline in the world and in Brazil. The event was organized by professor Marisa Midori Deaecto, from USP's School of Communications and Arts (ECA), who is spending a sabbatical leave at the IEA.

Corredores ecológicos permitem a livre circulação genética entre as espécies e favorecem a proteção da biodiversidade
Às vésperas do seminário Corredores Ecológicos e Conectividade da Paisagem, que aconteceu no IEA no dia 26 de junho, José Pedro Costa, secretário de Biodiversidade e Florestas do Ministério do Meio Ambiente (SBio-MMA) explicou ao programa de rádio Jornal da USP a importância de existir conexão entre diversas áreas protegidas: “Áreas muito pequenas não têm condição de garantir a reprodução, de plantas e, especialmente, de animais, para que eles possam ser perpetuados como num banco genético”. Segundo ele, que também é vice-coordenador do Grupo de Pesquisa Amazônia em Transformação do IEA, os corredores ec ológicos permitem a livre circulação genética entre as espécies, favorecendo a proteção da biodiversidade. Ecological corridors allow free genetic circulation between species and favor the protection of biodiversity
Shortly before the seminar 'Ecological Corridors and Landscape Connectivity', held at the IEA on June 26, secretary of Biodiversity and Forests of the Ministry of Environment (SBio-MMA) José Pedro Costa explained the importance of having connected preserved areas at USP's radio news program: 'Very small areas can not guarantee reproduction, especially of animals, but also of plants, so that they can be perpetuated as in a gene pool.' According to him, who is also vice-coordinator of IEA's Research Group Amazon in Transformation, ecological corridors allow free genetic circulation between species, favoring the protection of biodiversity.
The program USP News is a partnertship between the IEA and 'Rádio USP'. It airs from Monday to Friday, from 7.30 to 9.30 am, both in São Paulo (93,7 MHz) and in Ribeirão Preto (107,9 MHz).
