Especialistas discutem EaD e tecnologia na educação básica
No dia 22 de novembro, das 9h às 18h, o seminário Tecnologias, Educação a Distância, Escola Integral: Em Que Pé Estamos? reunirá um grupo de especialistas para tratar das dificuldades de utilizar as tecnologias educacionais interativas nas escolas, dos problemas e desafios da EaD e de como a modalidade pode ser uma aliada na formação de professores. Também serão discutidos o design instrucional, a educação híbrida e o papel das mídias digitais na educação. O encontro é o terceiro de uma série de cinco organizada pelo Grupo de Estudos Educação Básica Pública: Dificuldades Aparentes, Desafios Reais. Haverá transmissão ao vivo pela web e para participar presencialmente é necessário realizar inscrição.
Experts discuss distance learning and technology in basic education
The seminar 'Technologies, Distance Education, Full-Time School: On What Place Are We?' will bring together a group of experts to address the difficulties of using interactive educational technologies in schools, the problems and challenges of distance learning, and how the modality can be an ally in teacher training. It will take place on November 22, from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. Instructional design, hybrid education and the role of digital media in education will also be discussed. The meeting is the third in a series of five organized by IEA's Study Group Basic Public Education: Apparent Difficulties, Actual Challenges. There will be live webcasting.'

Frederico Morais e Marcus Lontra relembram eventos artísticos que marcaram os anos 70 e 80
Os críticos e curadores Frederico Morais e Marcus Lontra estarão no IEA no dia 14 de novembro, às 14h30, para tratar de alguns dos mais importantes eventos artísticos brasileiros dos anos 70 e 80: "Do Corpo à Terra", realizado em Belo Horizonte em 1970; "Domingos de Criação", que ocorreram de janeiro a julho de 1971 no MAM-RJ; e a exposição "Como Vai Você, Geração 80?", sediada na Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Laje, Rio de Janeiro, em 1984. O encontro integra a programação do Ciclo "Cultura, Institucionalidade e Gestão", realizado pela Cátedra Olavo Setubal de Arte, Cultura e Ciência, uma parceria do IEA com o Itaú Cultural. Haverá transmissão ao vivo pela web. Para participar presencialmente é necessária inscrição prévia.
Frederico Morais and Marcus Lontra recall artistic events that marked the 70's and 80's
Critics and curators Frederico Morais and Marcus Lontra will be at the IEA on November 14th, at 2.30 pm, to address some of the most important artistic events held in the 1970s and 1980s in Brazil: 'From Body to Earth,' held in various places of Belo Horizonte in 1970; 'Creation Sundays,' which took place from January to July in 1971 at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro, and the exhibition 'How Are You, Generation 80?,' headquartered at the School of Visual Arts of Laje Park, Rio de Janeiro, in 1984. The meeting is part of the cycle 'Culture, Institutionality and Management,' organized by the Olavo Setubal Chair on Art, Culture and Science, an IEA partnership with Itaú Cultural. There will be a live webcast.

Encontro no IEA debaterá inovações para melhorar a produtividade no Brasil
Com o objetivo de pensar formas de melhorar a produtividade da economia brasileira, a conferência Desafios da Inovação promoverá debate sobre as mudanças tecnológicas que afetam a produção no Brasil, levando em consideração, entre outras coisas, a formação educacional dos jovens brasileiros nas universidades, a capacidade de geração de conhecimento científico e o potencial de inovação das empresas. Transmitido ao vivo pela web, o encontro acontecerá no dia 21 de novembro, às 10h, com exposição de João de Negri, economista e pesquisador do Instituto de Pes quisa Econômica Aplicada (Ipea). É necessária inscrição prévia para quem deseja assistir presencialmente.
A meeting at the IEA will discuss innovations to improve productivity in Brazil
Aiming at thinking about ways to improve productivity of the Brazilian economy, the conference 'Challenges of Innovation' will promote a debate on the technological changes affecting production in Brazil, taking into account, among other things, the educational background of Brazilian youth in universities, the capacity to generate scientific knowledge and the innovation potential of companies. With live webcasting, the meeting will take place on November 21, at 10.00 am, with an exhibition by economist and researcher João de Negri, from the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), and moderation by Glauco Arbix, from IEA's Innovation and Competitiveness Observatory.

Simpósio sobre História da Ciência apresentará pesquisas da USP, IPEN, IPT e Instituto Butantan
O Grupo de Pesquisa Khronos: História da Ciência, Epistemologia e Medicina do IEA e o Centro Interunidades de História da Ciência da USP realizam nos dias 13 e 14 de novembro o Simpósio USP de História da Ciência e da Tecnologia: Construindo Diálogos Interdisciplinares, a partir das 9h. Com inscrições encerradas para participação presencial, o simpósio pode ter suas conferências acompanhadas ao vivo pela web. Buscando promover debates e reflexões sobre temas atuais desta área de pesquisa, o evento terá sessões de comunicação oral de professores, pesquisadores e pós-graduandos da USP, do Instituto Butantan, do IPEN e do IPT.
Symposium on History of Science will present research from USP, IPEN, IPT and Butantan Institute
The USP Symposium on History of Science and Technology: Building Interdisciplinary Dialogues will be held on November 13 and 14 from 9.00 am. The organizers are IEA's Research Group Khronos: History of Science, Epistemology and Medicine, and USP's Inter-Units Center for Science History. The event can be watched liveover the web. Seeking to promote debates and reflections on current topics in this area of research, the meeting will have oral communication sessions by professors, researchers and post-graduate students from USP, Instituto Butantan, IPEN and IPT.

“Machado”, o romance de sobrevivência de Silviano Santiago
O escritor e professor de teoria literária Silviano Santiago esteve no IEA em outubro para falar de “Machado”, sua mais recente obra, ganhadora do Prêmio Jabuti de Melhor Romance de 2017. Ele classifica o livro numa categoria que chama de “romance de sobrevivência”. O tema da obra são os quatro anos finais da vida de Machado de Assis. Santiago diz que procurou tratar da própria velhice (“não por exibicionismo”), relacionando-a com a de Machado, a morte de seu melhor amigo e obras como “A Morte de Ivan Ilitch”, de Leon Tostói, e “Retrato do Artista quando Velho”, de Joseph Heller.
'Machado', the survival novel by Silviano Santiago
Writer and professor of literary theory Silviano Santiago was at the IEA in October to talk about 'Machado,' his latest work, winner of the Jabuti Award for Best Romance of 2017. He classifies the book into a category he calls 'survival novel.' The theme of the work is the final four years of Machado de Assis's life. Santiago says that he tried to deal with his own old age ('not due to exhibitionism'), relating it to Machado's age, the death of his best friend, and works such as Leo Tolstoy's 'The Death of Ivan Ilyich' and Joseph Heller's 'Portrait of an Artist, as an Old Man.'
