IEA sediará primeiro encontro de diretores da Ubias realizado no continente americano
 
De 19 a 23 de março, o IEA será o anfitrião do quinto encontro bienal de diretores de institutos de estudos avançados integrantes da rede internacional Ubias (University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study). Esta é a primeira vez que a reunião será realizada no continente americano. Seguindo um dos objetivos da rede, os participantes pensarão novas formas de colaboração entre os institutos e seus pesquisadores, seja em programas ou plataformas colaborativas. Eles também escolherão o tópico do ano de 2019, um tema de importância global a ser explorado em diferentes atividades e formatos pelos pesquisadores dos IEAs.
 
 
IEA to host the first UBIAS Directors' Conference held in the American continent
 
From March 19 to 23, the IEA will host the fifth biennial conference of directors of advanced study institutes of the UBIAS international network (University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study). This is the first time the event will be held on the American continent. Following one of the objectives of the network, the participants will think about new forms of collaboration between the institutes and their researchers, be it in programs or collaborative platforms. They will also choose the topic for the year 2019, a common theme of global importance to be explored in different activities and formats by researchers linked to IASs.

Eliana Sousa Silva, diretora da Redes da Maré, é a nova titular da Cátedra Olavo Setubal de Arte, Cultura e Ciência
 
A educadora e ativista social Eliana Sousa Silva é a nova titular da Cátedra Olavo Setubal de Arte, Cultura e Ciência, substituindo o designer Ricardo Ohtake, que ocupou a posição em 2017. A Cátedra é resultado de uma parceria do IEA com o Itaú Cultural. Diretora fundadora da Redes da Maré, no Rio de Janeiro, Eliana tomará posse no dia 27 de março, em cerimônia na USP. Ela é a primeira mulher na vaga, com a missão de trazer para a universidade a discussão sobre a cultura no campo expandido, bem como o papel desta como agente de mediação e transformação social.

Educator and social activist Eliana Sousa Silva is the new holder of the Olavo Setubal Chair of Arts, Culture and Science, replacing designer Ricardo Ohtake, who held the position in 2017. The Chair is the result of an IEA partnership with Itaú Cultural. Founding Director of the Tide Development Network, an important organization that works with the community in the Maré slums in Rio de Janeiro, Silva will take office on March 27, in a ceremony at USP. She is the first woman on the position, with the mission to bring the discussion about culture in the expanded field to the university, as well as her role as an agent of mediation and social transformation.

Seminário destaca importância das experiências inovadoras em educação básica
 
Apesar das inúmeras dificuldades do ensino básico brasileiro, existem diversas escolas públicas e privadas de boa qualidade. Para tratar desses exemplos, o Grupo de Estudos Educação Básica Pública Brasileira realiza o seminário Escolas e Experiências: O Que se Pode Admirar, Apesar de Tudo? no dia 12 de março, das 9 às 17h, no IEA, com transmissão ao vivo pela Internet. Para participar presencialmente é necessário realizar inscrição prévia. O objetivo central do seminário é conhecer as experiências inovadoras, os desafios por elas enfrentados e debater as transformações necessárias para que elas deixem de ser minoria na educação pública brasileira.
 
 
Seminar highlights the importance of innovative experiences in basic education
 
In spite of the numerous difficulties of Brazilian basic education, there are several public and private schools of good quality. To address these examples, the Brazilian Public Basic Education Study Group will hold the seminar 'Schools and Experiences: What Can Be Admired Despite Everything?' on March 12, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, at the IEA, with a live webcast. The main objective of the seminar is to learn about the innovative experiences, the challenges they face, and to discuss the transformations necessary for them to cease being a minority in Brazilian public education.

Oficina utiliza a arte para criar pedagogia estética na educação em direitos humanos
 
Um ciclo de encontros irá utilizar a arte para trabalhar a educação em direitos humanos. Organizada pelo Grupo de Pesquisas Direitos Humanos, Democracia, Política e Memória do IEA, a oficina População em Situação de Rua e Direitos Humanos acontece no dia 15 de março, às 10h15, na Sala Alfredo Bosi do IEA. Será a primeira do ciclo Arte, Curta-metragem e Direitos Humanos, que buscará desenvolver uma pedagogia estética da educação em direitos humanos, trabalhando a sensibilidade dos participantes no olhar para a questão. Haverá transmissão ao vivo pela web e não há necessidade de inscrição para participar presencialmente.
 
 
Workshop uses art to create aesthetic pedagogy in human rights education
 
A cycle of meetings will use art to work on human rights education. Organized by IEA's Human Rights, Democracy, Policy and Memory Research Group, the workshop 'Population in Street Situation and Human Rights' will take place on March 15, at 10.15 am, in the Alfredo Bosi Room at the IEA. It will be the first of the cycle 'Art, Short Film and Human Rights,' which will seek to develop an aesthetic pedagogy of human rights education, working the participants' sensitivity in looking at the issue.

Especialistas discutem como aproveitar o potencial brasileiro em recursos naturais estratégicos
 
No dia 16 de março, às 9h, no IEA, o seminário Diálogo sobre Cooperação Tecnológica - Transformando Recursos em Riquezastratará do potencial do país em recursos naturais considerados estratégicos e dos possíveis caminhos para fazer com que eles possam vir a ser uma nova fonte impulsionadora de desenvolvimento sustentável. Com transmissão ao vivo pela internet e inscrição prévia para participação presencial, o evento terá como conferencistas Caetano Juliani, professor do Departamento de Geologia Sedimentar e Ambiental (GSA) da USP, Fernando Landgraf, diretor presidente do Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas (IPT), e Eduardo Ribeiro, presidente da Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração (CBMM).
 
 
Experts discuss how to harness Brazil's potential in strategic natural resources
 
The seminar 'Dialogue on Technological Cooperation - Transforming Resources into Riches' will address the country's potential in natural resources considered strategic and the possible ways to make them a new driving force for sustainable development on March 16, at 9.00 am, at the IEA. The conferencists will be Caetano Juliani, a professor at USP's Department of Sedimentary and Environmental Geology (GSA), Fernando Landgraf, director of the Institute of Technological Research (IPT), and Eduardo Ribeiro, president of the Brazilian Metallurgy and Mining Company (CBMM). The event will be broadcast live.
