Literatura produzida nas periferias brasileiras é tema de seminário da Cátedra Olavo Setubal
A literatura produzida nas periferias do Brasil será o tema da primeira atividade da Cátedra Olavo Setubal de Arte, Cultura e Ciência sob a gestão de Eliana Sousa Silva. No dia 18 de junho, às 14h, no IEA, o seminário Reflexões Sobre Literatura Periférica e Universidade inaugura a série de diálogos “Centralidades Periféricas”, que busca aproximar docentes, técnicos, estudantes, artistas, intelectuais e ativistas das periferias brasileiras. “As ações culturais realizadas por grupos das periferias permitem que estas afirmem um lugar na cidade para além dos tradicionais estereótipos, centrados na carência e na precariedade”, avalia Eliana, que também é fundadora e diretora da Redes da Maré. Para participar presencialmente, é necessária inscrição prévia. Também é possível acompanhar ao vivo pela web.
Literature produced in the Brazilian peripheries is the theme of a seminar held by the Olavo Setúbal Chair
The literature produced in and around the peripheries of Brazil will be the theme of the first activity of the Olavo Setubal Chair of Art, Culture and Science under the management of Eliana Sousa Silva. On June 18, at 2.00 pm, the IEA will host the seminar 'Reflections on Peripheral Literature and University,' which inaugurates the series of dialogues "Peripheral Centralities." The series seeks to bring together professors, technicians, students, artists, intellectuals and activists from the Brazilian peripheries. "Cultural actions carried out by groups from the peripheries allow them to affirm a place in the city beyond the traditional stereotypes, centered on lack and precariousness," says Eliana, who is also the founder and director of the Tide Dev elopment Network, an NGO that aims to develop the largest set of favelas in Rio de Janeiro: Maré. There will be a live webcast.

Conferencista analisa a capacidade emancipatória do desenvolvimento da técnica
A confiança cega de que ciência e técnica são produções neutras do processo tecnológico da emancipação humana constitui um pressuposto "mítico" da modernidade, passível de crítica radical diante da degradação social e ecológica, segundo o professor de filosofia Marildo Menegat, do Núcleo de Estudos de Políticas Públicas em Direitos Humanos da UFRJ. Para falar sobre este assunto, ele estará no IEA no dia 21 de junho, às 14h, na conferência As Ruínas do Esclarecimento: o Desenvolvimento da Técnica (ainda) é Emancipatório?, com inscrição prévia para participação presencial. Haverá transmissão ao vivo pela internet.
Lecturer analyzes the emancipatory capacity of technical development
The blind trust that science and technology are neutral productions of the technological process of human emancipation constitutes a "mythical" presupposition of modernity, subject to radical criticism in the face of social and ecological degradation, according to professor of philosophy Marildo Menegat, from the Center for Studies of Public Policies on Human Rights at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. To address the issue, he will be at the IEA on June 21, at 2.00 pm, for the conference 'The Ruins of Enlightenment: Is the Development of the Technique (yet) Emancipatory?'

Encontro debate as contribuições da filosofia de Martin Buber para as atividades clínicas
No dia 25 de junho, às 14h, pesquisadores irão analisar no IEA como a obra do filósofo e pedagogo Martin Buber, morto em 1965, pode colaborar com o trabalho em clínicas, considerando a importância do diálogo e da intersubjetividade nessas atividades. O austríaco, que aborda a alteridade e a relação dialógica em seus escritos, é tema do livro “Martin Buber, a Filosofia e Outros Escritos sobre o Diálogo e a Intersubjetividade”, de autoria de José Maurício de Carvalho, conferencista no evento. Além dele, participarão como debatedores o médico Paulo Saldiva, diretor do IEA, e a comunicadora Liana Gottlieb. O encontro terá transmissão ao vivo pelo site do IEA.
Meeting discusses the contributions of Martin Buber's philosophy to clinical activities
On June 25, at 2.00 pm, researchers will analyze how the work of philosopher and pedagogue Martin Buber can collaborate in clinical work, considering the importance of dialogue and intersubjectivity in these activities. The Austrian, who deals with alterity and dialogical relation in his writings, is the subject of "Martin Buber, philosophy and other writings on dialogue and intersubjectivity," a book by José Maurício de Carvalho, lecturer at this IEA event. Physician Paulo Saldiva, director of the Institute, and communicator Liana Gottlieb will also participate as debaters. The meeting will be broadcast live on IEA's website.

Encontro debate capacidade das cidades de se adaptar à escassez de recursos
Um seminário no IEA se propõe a dialogar com as questões de resiliência urbana no contexto do nexo água, energia e alimentos. “A resiliência é o que ajuda as cidades a se adaptarem e se transformarem diante desses desafios, possibilitando respostas tanto para o esperado quanto para o inesperado”, explicam os organizadores. Resiliência Urbana no Contexto do Nexo Água, Energia e Alimentos acontece no dia 28 de junho, às 14h, e faz parte do projeto ResNexus, uma parceria entre a USP e as Universidades de Wageningen, Holanda, e de Sussex, Reino Unido. O evento pode ser acompanhado ao vivo pela web.
Meeting addresses the ability of cities to adapt to the scarcity of resources
A seminar at the IEA will propose to dialogue with the issues of urban resilience in the context of the water-energy-food nexus. "Resilience is what helps cities to adapt and transform in the face of these challenges, enabling responses to both the expected and the unexpected," explain the organizers. 'Urban Resilience in the Context of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus' will take place on June 28, at 2.00 pm, and is part of the ResNexus project, a partnership between USP and the universities of Wageningen, in The Netherlands, and Sussex, in the UK. The event can be followed live over the web.

José Goldemberg: 90 anos do cientista e gestor público
Físico nuclear de formação e especialista em energia sustentável, política de CT&I, educação e meio ambiente, José Goldemberg chega aos 90 anos, comemorados no dia 27 de maio. Atual presidente do Conselho Superior da Fapesp, Goldemberg tem recebido diversas homenagens. Nelas, a criação do IEA em 1986, seu primeiro ano como reitor da USP, tem sido destacada como uma de suas importantes contribuições para o desenvolvimento acadêmico do país.
José Goldemberg: 90 years of the scientist and public manager
Nuclear physicist, and specicalist in sustainable energy, education and the environment, José Goldemberg reached the age of 90 on May 27. Current chairman of the São Paulo Research Foundation's Board of Governors, Goldemberg has received several honors. The creation of the IEA in 1986, his first year as USP's president, has been highlighted as one of his important contributions to the academic development of the country.
