OPENING OF THE EXAMINATION REGISTRATION OF GRADES AND EXAMINATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF “PROFESSOR WITH A DOCTORAL DEGREE (LEVEL) 1, REFERENCE MS-3.1, RDIDP (INTEGRAL SCHEME DEDICATION TO TEACHING AND RESEARCH) AT THE DEPARTMENT OF MATERIAL PHYSICS AND MECHANICS, AT THE INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SÃO PAULO.

The Director of the Physics Institute of the University of São Paulo publicly announces, to all concerned, that, according to the decisions made at the 503rd Ordinary Session of the Committee, held on May 29th, 2015 (third call), the examination enrollments of positions and examinations for the position of “Professor with a Doctoral Degree (Level) 1, Reference MS-3.1, position  number nº 1231944, will be open for a period of 90 days, for a salary of  R$ 10.049,62 at the Department of Material Physics and Mechanics, in the general area of Condensed Matter Physics Experimental or Theoretical Research, under art. 125, paragraph 1, of USP’s General Rules, and of their program, as follows:

4300402 - Introduction to Solid State Physics

Program

1. Periodic structures, 2. X-ray diffraction and reciprocal lattice,3.  Fermi gas of free electrons, 4.  Electrons in the presence of a periodic potential, 5. Lattice vibrations, phonons and thermal properties, 6. Transport properties, 7. Optical properties, 8. Fermi surfaces, 9. Magnetism  and 10. Superconductivity

The examination will be governed by the provisions of the Bylaws, the General Rules of the University of São Paulo, and by the Rules of the Physics Institute, Resolutions No. 4,087 of June 21, 1994, 4,265 of May 3, 1996, 5,367 of October 18, 2006 and 5,829 of April 4. 2010.

1.Enrollments will be held at the Academic Assistance Department of USP’s Physics Institute, at: Praça do Oceanográfico, Travessa E, s/n, Edifício Principal, Ala I, sala 339, Cidade Universitária “Armando Salles de Oliveira”, between 9am and 12pm and between 2pm and 5pm on working days (except Saturdays). Applicants must submit the application addressed to the Director of the Physics Institute, containing their personal data and details of their knowledge field (specialty) as it relates to the department for which they are  applying, accompanied by the following documents:

I - detailed Curriculum Vitae in ten copies, substantiating published papers, the activities pertaining to the application, and other information which enables the assessment of their merits;

II - ten copies of the research project, compatible with the research area;

III - proof that the applicant carries the title of Doctor awarded by USP, by an institution recognized by USP, or with national validity;

IV - the applicant whose title is not valid nationally or is not recognized by USP must formalize the request for recognition upon registration;

V - proof of discharge from military service, for male applicants;

VI - voter identification card accompanied by proof of vote in the last election (both turns), proof of payment of the respective fine or proper justification.

1.1. A professor in office at USP is exempted from the requirements mentioned in items V and VI, provided that these requirements were met during the initial contract.

1.2. Foreign applicants will be exempted from the requirements of items V and VI. However, they must submit a copy of the identity pages from their passport.

1.3. An approved foreign applicant who is nominated to fill the position may only take office upon submission of a temporary or permanent visa, which grants the holder permission to exercise remunerated activity in Brazil.

1.4. Upon registration, the applicant must submit documentation filed in folders, stating the numbers of the documents contained in each folder, along with a list of those documents.

1.5.. Upon registration, the foreign applicants may submit a written request to take the tests in English, pursuant to paragraph 8 of art.135 of the General Rules. The contents of the examinations conducted in English and Portuguese will be identical.

1.6. Upon registration, applicants with special needs must submit a request for the necessary conditions to be provided for the examinations.

2.Enrollments will be judged by the Committee, in its formal aspect, and its decisions will be published by public notice.

2.1.. The examination will be considered after the acceptance of the registration, within thirty to one hundred and twenty days, in accordance with art.134, sole paragraph, of the General Rules.

2.2. Applicants will be required to keep track of all notifications pertaining to the activities and requirements of the examination, published in the State Official Gazette.

3. The examination will be considered according to objective criteria, in one phase, via the assigning of grades on examinations.

3.1.Applicants who arrive late will not be allowed to take the examinations.

4. Examinations will contain:

I –judgment of the Curriculum Vitae with public argumentation examination - weight 4;

II –didactic examination – weight 3;

III - presentation of the research project and its argumentation - weight 3.

5. Public Argumentation Examination and Judgments of Curriculum Vitae

5.1. The judgment of the Curriculum Vitae, expressed via global grades, including argumentation and evaluation, must reflect the merit of the applicant and will be performed in accordance with article 136 of the General Rule. During the judgment of the Curriculum Vitae, the Committee must consider:

a) scientific, literary, philosophical, or artistic production;

b) university teaching activity;

c) activities related to the provision of services to the community;

d) professional or other activities, if applicable;

e) degrees and university honors.

5.2.  After the argumentation of all applicants, the Examining Committee will confer the respective grades in closed session.

6. Didactic Examination.

6.1. The Didactic Examination will be public, with a minimum duration of forty minutes and a maximum duration of sixty minutes, and will focus on the field of ​​knowledge mentioned above, pursuant to art.137 of USP’s General Rules.

6.2. Based on the examination’s program, the Examining Committee will prepare a list of ten topics, of which the applicants will be made aware, immediately preceding the drawing of the topic.

6.3.Applicants may propose the replacement of the topics, immediately after becoming aware of them, if they understand that these points do not belong to the application’s examination. The Examining Committee will then make the decision regarding the merits of the claim.

6.4. The drawing of the topic will be made twenty-four hours prior to the didactic examination, and the applicant will be forbidden to waive this deadline.

6.5. Applicant will be allowed use the didactic material that they deem necessary.

6.6. Depending on the number of applicants, they may be divided into groups of up to three, according to the order of registration, for the drawing and for the performance of the examination.

7. Research Project

7.1. The presentation of the Research Project will be made in the form of dialogue, not to exceed sixty (60) minutes to all the examiners and sixty (60) minutes for the applicant.

7.2. During the evaluation of the Research Project, its suitability to the research lines of the Unit must be taken in consideration, as well as its framing in the area of ​​operation of the department and the applicant’s originality and viability in light of the existing infrastructure in the Unit.

8. Each examination will be individually evaluated by members of the Examination Committee.

9. The examination grades may range from zero to ten, with an accuracy up to the first decimal place.

10. At the end of the exam, each applicant will have a final grade given by each examiner, which will be the average of the grades given by the examiner, subject to the weights set out in item 4.

11. The nomination of the applicants will be made by the examiner, according to the grades given.

12. Applicants who achieve, from the majority of examiners, a minimum final grade of seven, will be considered qualified. All others will be considered eliminated.

13. The applicant receiving the most nominations by the Examination Committee will be proposed for appointment.

14. The result of the examination will be publicly announced by the Examination Committee, immediately after its completion.

15. The examination will be effective immediately, and only the applicants appointed to the position under application will be nominated.

16. The inauguration of the nominee shall be subject to approval after a medical examination conducted by the State’s Department of Medical Skills (DPME), pursuant to article 47, VI, of Law No.10.261/68.

17. The joining of the faculty in the Full Dedication Scheme to Teaching and Research (RDIDP) is conditional upon the approval of the Special Work Regime Committee (CERT), in accordance with Resolution 3533/89 and other applicable rules, and implies an exclusive relationship with USP, under ARTICLE 197 of the General Rules.
