Symmetry breaking induced by quantum corrections is a very appealing phenomena that can appear in certain field theories. In the Standard Model, the possibility that all masses are generated by quantum corrections would be a solution to hierarchy problems, and it is known for some time that this phenomena can only be studied by properly taking into account the implications of the renormalization group (RG) to the calculation of the quantum effective potential. I describe some simplified models where RG effects also show up in the study of dynamical symmetry breaking, to wit, three dimensional Chern-Simons models, and a simplified version of QCD where the role of a nonperturbative IR fixed point in the RG flow is considered.
