Resumo: The Compact Muon Solenoid experiment, located at the LHC Point 5, in Cessy, France, is famous for its discoveries: the Higgs boson, the Vector boson interactions, the tetraquarks exotic mesons and all its production cross section measurements to say a few. The point for this colloquium is not about the discoveries but how we made them: a travel around the CMS machine design, from the roots of experimental particle physics to details about the very late instrumentation. Taking advantage of the next Long Shutdown 3, CMS will experience a technological revolution to withstand with the luminosity from the refurbished High Luminosity LHC. Details about the CMS Upgrade, with emphasis on the LGADs for the Endcaps MIP Timing Layers and on the CROCv2 readout chip for the inner pixel tracker will be given because the author has collaborated in those technical achievements.
