Sobre o evento:
The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) is the only international scientific union dedicated to all areas of physics, connecting the physics communities from all over the world. Established in 1922 with 13 members, it now has over 50 active territorial members, five of which are from Latin America and the Caribbean. IUPAP entered its second century with a renewed vision and action plan. In this talk, I will briefly outline IUPAP’s objectives, activities, past achievements, and prospect. I will focus, in particular, on the Union’s impact on our region and discuss potential pathways to strengthen its ties with the local and regional physics communities. I hope this talk will help generate ideas on how to coordinate our efforts to contribute to the development of science and society in our region. Such coordination will also support IUPAP’s mission to advance physics, foster international cooperation, and apply the knowledge gained to the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary dialogue needed to address the challenges currently faced by humanity.
