Mission

The mission of the Department of Mathematical Physics is to advance the frontiers of fundamental science by pursuing research of the highest international caliber in particle physics, field theory, strings, gravitation, cosmology, quantum Information and matter under extreme conditions.

We are committed to deepening our understanding of the physical laws that govern the universe—at the smallest and largest scales—and to fostering an environment where bold ideas, intellectual curiosity, and rigorous inquiry drive scientific discovery. We strive at maintaining a vibrant workplace to foster collaborations, promote excellence and stimulate creativity.

Equally central to our mission is the cultivation of the next generation of physicists. The department is dedicated to attracting outstanding students, recruiting exceptional young researchers, and providing them with a thriving, supportive environment in which they can develop their talents to the fullest. We uphold the highest academic and pedagogical standards, offering rigorous and comprehensive instruction that reflects both the foundational pillars of physics and the latest advances in the core fields of research. Through mentorship, high-quality teaching, and a culture of integrity and inclusion, we aim to prepare our students not only to contribute to the scientific enterprise, but also to become leaders in academia, industry, and society.
