The work, entitled "Magnetic nanoparticles produced in a hollow cathode magnetron sputtering gun", investigates a physical method for producing magnetic nanoparticles using a hollow cathode magnetron sputtering gun — a sputtering deposition technique that allows the formation of particles to be controlled at the nanoscale. The topic continues the researcher's master's dissertation, defended in 2021, in which the nanoparticle gun based on this technology was developed.

Magnetic nanoparticles attract great scientific interest due to their applications in areas such as biomedicine (controlled drug release and magnetic hyperthermia), data storage, sensors and advanced materials. The advancement of physical production methods, such as the one addressed in this thesis, is a relevant step toward making these materials more accessible and controllable at laboratory and industrial scales.
