The Department of Materials Physics and Mechanics (DFMT/IFUSP) announces the seminar "Tuning Quantum States with Pressure: from Weyl Semimetals to Correlated Superconductors", given by Prof. Dr. Ricardo Donizeth dos Reis, on September 23, 2026 (Wednesday), at 4:00 PM, in the José Roberto Leite Seminar Room (Alessandro Volta Building, block C, room 110).

About the seminar

The talk will discuss how pressure acts as a tool to tune quantum states of matter, following a path that goes from Weyl semimetals — materials in which quasiparticles behave as Weyl fermions — to correlated superconductors, in which strong electronic interactions give rise to exotic phenomena. As a clean and continuous parameter, pressure allows modifying the electronic, magnetic and structural properties of quantum materials without introducing chemical disorder.

Prof. Dr. Ricardo Donizeth dos Reis is an associate professor at DFMT/IFUSP. He holds a bachelor's, master's and PhD in Physics from UNICAMP, completed his doctorate in collaboration with the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), focusing on the study of materials under high pressures, with emphasis on superconductors and topological materials.
