Professor Danilo Mustafa on the cover of Volume 13 / Feb 2025

We are delighted to announce that the article titled "In Situ and Ex Situ Luminescence Investigation of Rare Earth Layered Double Hydroxides Intercalated with Mellitate Anion", co-authored by Prof. Danilo Mustafa, has been selected as one of the covers of the latest issue of Advanced Optical Materials. This significant achievement highlights the innovative work conducted by the research team, reinforcing the reputation for excellence in research in the field of advanced optical materials.

The study reports the preparation, via the co-precipitation method, of layered double hydroxides intercalated with mellitate anions, doped with trivalent lanthanide ions. The experiments performed evidenced that the Ln3+ ions and the organic anion are effectively introduced into the material, preserving its structural properties. In situ measurements identified changes in the luminescent properties associated with the nucleation and growth processes of the LDHs.

Surprisingly, blue post-drying luminescence was observed in the material doped with Gd3+, attributed to the phosphorus T→S0 transition. This advance in the design of luminescent materials emits white light based on Ln3+ ions, expanding the prospects for future technological applications.
