He holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics (1986), a Master's degree in Solid State Physics (1986), and a Ph.D. in Physics (1991) from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Belgium). He has been a Professor at the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo (IFUSP) since 1992, was a visiting researcher at the Center for Quantum Devices (CQD) at Northwestern University (NU, United States) in 2005 and 2006, and has been an Associate Professor (Livre-Docente) at IFUSP since 2012. His work primarily focuses on molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), the morphological, structural, optical, and electrical characterization of III-V compound semiconductor heterostructures (mainly arsenides), and more recently, on the fabrication and characterization of solar cells and infrared radiation photodetectors based on quantum dots.
