Bachelor in Physics from the Federal University of São Carlos (1983), obtained a master's degree in Condensed Matter Physics from the State University of Campinas (1986), and a Ph.D. from the same institution in 1989. Since 1990, he has been a professor at the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo, São Paulo. Since 2005, he has held the position of Full Professor in the Department of Materials Physics and Mechanics. He works in the area of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, focusing on the following topics: magnetism, critical phenomena, superconductivity, nanostructured materials, general properties of transition metal oxides, and strongly correlated electronic systems.
