He holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics (1962), a Ph.D. (1966), and Habilitation (Livre Docente, 1968) from FFCL-USP. He completed postdoctoral studies at MIT (USA, 1969-71) and served as a "Staff Scientist" at the Francis Bitter National Magnet Lab at MIT from 1976 to 1979. Since 1979, he has served as a full professor at the Institute of Physics at the University of São Paulo (IFUSP). He was a "Visiting Scientist" at both FBNML and the Center for Materials Science at MIT and at the University of Leiden (Netherlands) and Tufts University (USA) during various periods. He consulted for the Brazilian Navy, the Advanced Studies Laboratory, Electromagnetic Systems (USA), and Pirelli S.A. His research interests include Magnetism, Phase Transitions, Critical Phenomena, Semiconductors, and Superconductors, focusing on low-temperature techniques combined with strong magnetic fields. He collaboratively developed and patented pioneering techniques with Professor G. Frossati. From the 1990s, he worked on a project for Gravitational Wave Detection using an ultra-cooled resonant spherical antenna. He also worked on producing ultra-low temperatures, applied magnetometry, ship magnetism control, superconducting wire development, and uranium isotopic separation. He supervised 10 master's theses, 7 doctoral dissertations, and numerous post-docs, co-authored over 160 published works and over 100 technical reports. He was head of the Department of Materials Physics and Mechanics at IFUSP (1980-1988) and coordinated the Solid State and Low-Temperature Laboratory (LESBT) (1984-2014). He played a crucial role in the integration and expansion of the Lorena School of Engineering (EEL) at USP. He served as its first elected Director (2009-2014), overseeing course reforms and faculty expansion. In 2014, he was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor of EEL/USP. Since 2011, he has been a Senior Lecturer at USP.
