The Department of Materials Physics and Mechanics (DFMT) of the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo (IFUSP) invites the community to the seminar "Computational simulations in nanomagnetism: skyrmion hunters", given by Prof. Dr. Helena Maria Petrilli.

A Full Professor (MS-6) at IFUSP, the researcher is a reference in electronic structure, magnetism and computational simulation of materials. The talk is part of the DFMT seminar series and takes place at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Gustavo M. Dalpian.

About the topic

Skyrmions are tiny magnetic "whirlpools" — topological structures at the nanometer scale that behave like quasiparticles. They attract great interest due to their potential in spintronics devices, high-density data storage and unconventional computing. In the seminar, the professor will show how computational simulations make it possible to predict, stabilize and control these structures in nanostructured magnetic materials.
