On October 25, 2024, the Department of Physics of Materials and Mechanics (DFMT) celebrated an important milestone with the colloquium "90 Years of Physics at USP: Revisiting the Past and Thinking about the Future". The event, held in the Adma Jafet Auditorium, brought together renowned researchers and professors for a day of enriching presentations and discussions.
The colloquium began at 10 am with an introduction by Profs. Marília Caldas and Gustavo Dalpian, followed by a series of lectures that addressed diverse and innovative topics in the field of physics. Highlights included the presentation on computational simulations of solid/water interfaces by Prof. Luana Sucupira Pedroza and the discussion on the design of multiscale materials for global challenges by Drs. Jessica Santos Rego and Jeann César Rodrigues de Araújo.
Other relevant topics included studies on magnetic properties of nanostructures, discussed by Prof. Luiz Carlos Camargo Miranda Nagamine, and the exploration of quantum dots by Prof. Alain André Quivy. After a break, the event continued with presentations on topological insulators, induction of order by light, and advances in theoretical simulations of nanosheets, among others.
The day culminated in a get-together at 4:30 p.m., providing participants with the opportunity to network and exchange ideas.
The event not only celebrated the legacy of physics at USP, but also inspired new perspectives and future collaborations in the field. We thank all participants and presenters for making this colloquium a memorable success.
